Archeology of Termez
The initial study of the monuments located in the basin of the Amu Darya goes back to the 19th century. Geographers, military engineers and just students of local lore did the first descriptions of ruined ancient settlements. The discovery of the Amu Darya treasure in the right-banked Bactria became a notable event in the world science. Systematic archeological investigation in the Surkhandarya province started in 1927-1928, when took place the expedition of the Museum of Oriental Cultures headed by Denike B.V. At the site of Old Termez were revealed ruins of the palace of Termez-shahs dated from the 11th-12th centuries.More...
