More than half of Russian population of Uzbekistan lives in Tashkent, making ок. 30 its inhabitants. To 1966 city has transferred destructive earthquake, but has been quickly restored. In Tashkent the most part of the industrial enterprises of republic is concentrated, through it pass the major roads; it is the center of economy, formation and culture of the country. The second-largest city - Samarkand (404 thousand person). Samarkand is the Capital of Uzbek ССР up to 1930. Its famous for the architectural monuments. A number of large cities is in Fergana valley: Namangan (300 thousand person); Andizhan (310 thousand); Fergana (200 thousand); Kokand (176 thousand) . It is necessary to mention also Bukhara (255 thousand person), ancient city which long time was the largest cultural and political center of Uzbek people. Nukus (189 thousand person) is capital of the Karakalpak autonomous republic.
