The 14th Uzbek International Exhibition "Oil & Gas Uzbekistan - OGU 2010"

The 14th Uzbek International Exhibition "Oil & Gas Uzbekistan - OGU 2010"

11 - 13, May 2010
OGU 2010, the 14th International Oil and Gas Exhibition & Conference, will take place on 11-13 May 2010 in Uzexpocentre, Tashkent. Today, the show is the foremost international forum for the development of the oil and gas sector in Uzbekistan. This year, OGU received ‘UFI Approved Event' status, which once again confirms the international standard of the exhibition. The event is organised by ITE Uzbekistan and I.T.E. Exhibitions&Conferences Ltd, a leading company in the Central Asian exhibition market.
Main facts:
• The Republic of Uzbekistan is an independent state in Central Asia
• Territory: 447,400km²
• Population: 27.7 million
Uzbekistan is:
• 4th in the world for gold reserves and 7th for gold production
• 4th in the world for cotton production and 2nd for cotton exports
• 7th in the world for uranium and copper production and 10th for uranium and copper exports
Oil and gas industry:
• 11th in the world for natural gas production
• 5th in the CIS for fuel and energy resources production
The national holding company Uzbekneftegaz is one of the largest producers of fuel and energy resources in Central Asia. The overall production of raw hydrocarbons in Uzbekistan amounts to about 86 million tonnes of standard fuel. Since 1991, its level has risen more than 60%. About 60% of Uzbekistan's territory is a potential source of oil and gas. In the five oil and gas bearing regions of Uzbekistan, 211 raw hydrocarbon deposits have been discovered, of which 108 are gas and gas condensate fields, and 103 are oil and gas, oil and gas condensate and oil fields. Over 50% of the fields are under development, 35% are being prepared for development, and at the remaining fields exploration work is continuing.
Well-known international companies operate in the field, including: Lukoil, Gazprom (Russia), CNPC (China), the Korean National Oil and Gas Corporation KOGAS (South Korea), Petronas Carigali (Malaysia), ZEROMAX (Sweden), DAEWOO International (South Korea), SASOL (South Africa) and others.
Investment attractiveness:
The improvement of the legislative framework of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the adoption of new regulations aimed at creating a favourable environment for attracting direct investment in the nation's economy - particularly in the oil and gas industry - have created new opportunities for large-scale investment in geological exploration, and oil and gas production.
Industry news:
• In accordance with a government programme to modernise production, from 2009 to 2014, Uzbekneftegaz will implement 52 investment projects totalling 21.5 billion US dollars.
• An agreement between Uzbekneftegaz, PETRONAS and SASOL (South Africa) has been signed establishing a joint venture to implement production of synthetic liquid fuel in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The process for producing GTL is based on SASOL's own technologies, and will allow 1.3 million tonnes of liquid fuels (diesel fuel, kerosene, naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas) to be produced annually from gas extracted in Uzbekistan, and then sold in the domestic market and for export.
• Construction of the Uzbekistan-China gas pipeline continues. The pipeline has a capacity of 30 billion m³ and is 525km long.
• Uzbekneftegaz and Lukoil plain to build a modern gas chemical facility, with a capacity of 8 billion m³ of gas a year, at the Kandym group of fields. The Khauzak-Shady-Kandym-Kungrad project will be implemented as part of the production sharing agreement signed in June 2004 between the Republic of Uzbekistan and a consortium of investors made up of Lukoil and Uzbekneftegaz. The first phase of the construction of the gas chemical facility is due to begin in 2011.
An oil and gas conference is due to be held alongside the exhibition. The conference will take place on 12-13 May 2010 in the Intercontinental Tashkent. OGU 2010 will be attended by more than 250 companies from 20 countries, including: Russia, UK, Hungary, Germany, Italy, South Korea, China, Poland, USA, France, Switzerland, Japan and others. There will be 15,000 visitors from Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
