About Uzbekistan

Tourism has always been and remains a kind of visiting card of any country while the number of arriving tourists is one of the main indicators of the world community's certainty about political and economic stability, prosperity, and significantly, symbolizes recognition of cultural and spiritual property of a nation. Today, Uzbekistan is among leaders in the list of leading tour operators of Europe. Asia and America with its unique tourist potential, unparalleled national color, rapidly developing infrastructure and wilderness that fascinate even experienced travellers. In conditions of modern globalization, expansion of transport streams and a tough competition in tourism sphere domestic tourist industry in a short period of time has managed to realise its potential, making Uzbekistan one of the most visited countries within the limits of the world-famous brand the "Great Silk Road". In the tourism sphere, each country searches for uniqueness and originality, presents it to the world community, be it the mysterious Maya, Buddhist temples or the splendour of Registan Square.

Presently. Uzbekistan has shown its hospitable embraces to the world, becoming not only a recognised industrial and financial but also a developed tourist center of the region. A wide range of the participating companies presented on the fair whose number has exceeded 20 this year became a bright indicator of successes reached by the Republic in the area of tourism. Among them an appreciable role was played by the domestic exhibitors who have presented the entire spectrum of tourist servants from unique nature protection places to the most up-to-date hotel, restaurant complexes and camping.

This has become possible due to the creation of a comprehensive legislative base regulating the activity of tourist industry which has given tour operators an effective mechanism for a dynamical development of the sphere with the help preferences, favourable investment conditions and institutional potential. Its groundwork was provided by the Law of the Republic Uzbekistan "On tourism" and has received a logic continuation in the service development program for 2006-2010 and Uzbek President Islam Karimov's resolution "On additional measures to accelerate the development of the sphere of services in the Republic of Uzbekistan till 2010". The general coordination work in the branch is conducted by the Uzbekturizm national company having its representation offices not only in all regions of Uzbekistan but also in a number of foreign countries. Presentations of tourist potential of Uzbekistan, organised with the assistance of Uzbekturizm as a part of the international tourist exhibitions entitled "Jata World Tourism Congress - 2008". Another main aspect in the development of tourist industry is to establish an infrastructure of services meeting the world standards, which are ready to offer tourists not only high-quality services and professionalism but also uniqueness and individuality. Modern tendencies in the world tourism show that it becomes more and more personified, segmented and narrow-banded. During tourist trips people of advanced age, who aspire not only to visit known historical monuments but also to learn culture, mentality of the people living in this territory more deeply, get acquainted with its life, traditions, customs, began to set the trend. Thanks to it the level of tourist culture stimulating in turn universal development of the sphere of services and has grown.

A larger attention is paid to development of transport system of the republic, without which an effective of tourist industry is impossible. It will allow local tour operators to open new, earlier unknown and remote places for tourist to visit and intensify development of private sector. One of the basic tendencies in the world tourist industry is ecological tourism. Uzbekistan takes the leading position in ecological tourism among the countries of the Central Asia. Such variety of fauna and flora, originality of landscape, contrast of natural zones, ethnic and cultural rituals, songs, dances, ethnic cuisine could be found only in few corners of the planet. Unique natural reserves known worldwide, among which Chatkal state biosphere reserve, included by UNESCO in the list of the world's largest nature protection territories, are especially notable. Also, hundreds tourist routes on all regions of Uzbekistan have been created, thousand monuments of culture, architecture and unique natural places, which are more than 4000 across the republic, are restored, and about 140 of them are under UNESCO protection.

Besides, formation of a functional tourist infrastructure in Uzbekistan prompts enhancement of branches, traditionally adjacent to the given industry, world recognition of the Uzbek craft, promotion such brands as Bukhara carpets, Shahrisabz silk, Samarkand pottery etc. It favors successful development of craftsmanship in regions, creation of new workplaces, attraction of foreign investors.

Exhibitions play an important role in further formation of the Uzbek tourist industry. They also present a rich tourist potential of the country new tourist routes, establish and develop contacts with foreign tourist agencies, insurance and transport companies.

It should be mentioned that a roundtable started yesterday in Tashkent. The forum, which gathered more than 100 participants from different countries, is on "the ways of development and popularization of tourism culture in the Great Silk Road countries", and is aimed at expanding cooperation between Great Silk Road countries, further promotion of the brand in the world, attraction of investments into tourism infrastructure, coordination of firms and organizations specializing in tourism along the Great Silk Road.

Thus, the tourist sphere of Uzbekistan becomes more and more attractive to foreign investors, having won a high place among other branches of the domestic economy. And the priority place in this process belongs to the state providing favorable opportunities for expansion of all segments of tourism industry by means of a unique combination of traditional Uzbek geniality and contemporary tendencies of the world industry.
